Frequently asked questions

Getting started

What is HopDrop?

HopDrop is the fastest shopping list you’ll ever use. You drag items to mark them bought or unavailable, keep a pantry that remembers what you already have, get AI recipe ideas from what’s in your kitchen, set optional reminders near your favorite shops, and share lists and a household pantry with the people you live with.

What do I need to run HopDrop?

An iPhone on iOS 17 or later. HopDrop also includes a Home Screen and Lock Screen widget and a Live Activity so you can check things off without opening the app.

Do I need an account?

Yes. HopDrop uses an account — sign in with Apple or Google — so your lists stay backed up, sync across your devices, and can be shared with the people you live with. We never receive your password.

How fast is adding items, really?

Start typing and HopDrop suggests the item, picks its category, and adds an emoji automatically. It remembers items you’ve added before, so your regulars come up first.

Lists & the drag board

How does the drag board work?

Each list has zones — what you still need, what you’ve got, and what wasn’t there. Drag an item across to update it instantly. It’s built for one-handed use while you’re actually in the shop.

Can I reuse a list?

Yes. Save any list as a template, then start a new list from it in a tap. You can also edit a template’s items or tweak a quick-start preset before adding it.

Can I customize how a list looks?

Give each list a color, an emoji, or a cover photo, and rename it any time. Lists can also be marked urgent or given a deadline.

Pantry

What does the pantry do?

Your pantry tracks what you already have at home. When you finish a list, items you bought can be restocked into the pantry automatically, and tapping “We’re out” moves something back onto your shopping list.

Can my household share one pantry?

Yes. Everyone in a household sees and updates the same pantry, and changes sync live, so no one buys milk that’s already in the fridge.

Recipes & allergens

How do recipe suggestions work?

HopDrop looks at what’s in your pantry and suggests recipes you can make right now, plus “almost there” ideas where you only need a couple more items — which you can add to your list in a tap. Each recipe shows a real reference photo.

Can I hide recipes with ingredients I avoid?

Yes. Set the allergens you want to avoid and HopDrop filters them out of suggestions. Important: allergen labels are generated automatically and are a convenience only — always check product packaging yourself. HopDrop doesn’t provide medical or allergy advice.

Are there limits on recipe generation?

There’s a fair-use cap on AI recipe generation to keep the service running smoothly for everyone. Day-to-day use is well within it.

Sharing & households

How do I share a list?

Open a list and share it — add someone you’ve shopped with before, or send an invite link. Anyone who joins sees the list update live as you and others check things off.

What’s a household?

A household is a shared space for the people you live with — a shared pantry and shopping that stay in sync across everyone’s phones. You can leave a household at any time.

What if I don’t want to see someone?

You can block a user, which removes them from your sharing options. You’re always in control of who can see your lists.

Location reminders

Why does HopDrop ask for location?

Only if you turn on nearby-shop reminders. HopDrop then nudges you when you pass one of your favorite shops that sells something still on an active list. It’s fully optional and off until you enable it.

Is my location tracked or sold?

No. Location is used on your device to set up reminders around shops you choose. It isn’t sold or shared. See our Privacy Policy for details.

A reminder didn’t fire — why?

Background reminders need “Always” location permission, and the system may hold them back if your device is offline or restricting background activity. Treat them as a helpful nudge, not a guarantee.

HopDrop Pro & billing

What is HopDrop Pro?

Pro unlocks the full HopDrop experience. You can try it with a free trial, then continue on a monthly or annual plan. The exact price and any trial are shown in the app before you buy.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed through your Apple Account. Manage or cancel any time in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Auto-renew turns off there. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Can my family use Pro?

Yes — HopDrop Pro works with Family Sharing, so your family group can share one subscription.

How do refunds work?

Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through Apple under the App Store terms.

Privacy & languages

Is my data private?

Your lists and items are backed up to our secure cloud (Supabase) so they sync across your devices and can be shared. We don’t show ads, we don’t use third-party tracking, and we don’t sell your data. Your pantry and saved templates stay on your device until you join a household. See the full Privacy Policy for specifics.

How do I delete my account or data?

Email [email protected] and we’ll remove your account and the data associated with it from our backend.

What languages does HopDrop support?

HopDrop is available in 25 languages with full right-to-left support, and you can switch language right inside the app — even the item suggestions and categories translate.
